Coed Mawr Hall near Rowen in Conwy is an elegant mansion house, built around 1810, with fabulous views of the valley below and mountains beyond. The main house offers luxurious, boutique-style bed and breakfast accommodation, although there are also self-catering cottages set within its extensive grounds.
Located down a long, private driveway just off the Conwy to Rowen Road, Coed Mawr Hall is ideally located for those keen to explore the surrounding coast, countryside and the mountains. It’s in the heart of a picturesque area that offers excellent opportunities for walking, mountain biking and bird watching. Guests can also enjoy river, lake and sea fishing locally, as well as golf, treetop walking, dry slope skiing and horse riding. The Isle of Anglesey, which is situated off the north-west coast of Wales near the beautiful Snowdonia mountain range, is within easy reach. So is Betws y Coed, a beautiful village in the Conwy Valley that’s a natural hub for walkers, climbers, canoeists, anglers and mountain bikers, and the popular Swallow Falls.
The owners of Coed Mawr Hall, Craig and Ian, had always dreamed of leaving the London rat race behind and moving to Wales. In Spring 2009, a good friend introduced them to Coed Mawr Hall and they instantly fell in love with the place. Since then, they’ve completely refurbished the main house, creating a stylish and elegant, yet welcoming and cosy, atmosphere throughout. They have paid great attention to detail, decorating the house in a sumptuously rich palette of period colours, and furnishing it with stunning antiques and plush soft furnishings. Vintage accessories, fresh flowers and some fabulously eclectic finishing touches create a grand but homely feel.
As there are never more than three couples in the house at any one time, Craig and Ian are able to offer a personal service and this venue is ideally suited to those looking for a romantic, relaxing break. Although children are more than welcome in the self-catering cottages, the bed and breakfast accommodation has been created to provide a relaxing break for adults only.
Each of the three double rooms has its own delightfully unique and individual decor and furnishings, although they each complement the look and feel of the rest of the house. The en suite bathrooms are equally luxurious, and each have a power shower and freestanding roll-top bath, where guests can soak their troubles away. The two superior rooms have glamorous king size four-poster beds, in which guests can wake up to stunning views across the countryside. The third room is a luxury twin with two double sleigh beds. All of the rooms are non-smoking.
B&B prices start at £130 per night, and bookings can only be taken for a minimum stay of two nights.
Ian and Craig serve a hearty breakfast made using the finest locally-sourced ingredients. Bacon and sausages are from the local farm, and the eggs are collected fresh every morning from the Coed Mawr hens.
