Hastings House has been a Guest House since 1855 and, during that time, its fortunes have changed with those of St Leonard’s itself. It witnessed the glory days that saw the town become one of the UK’s most fashionable seaside resorts and the sad decline that took place during the latter part of the 20th Century.
In recent years, St Leonard’s has deservedly regained its place as one of the best loved seaside towns on the South Coast and Hastings House is enjoying a revival after having new life breathed into it by its current owners. It now offers luxurious, modern bed and breakfast accommodation following a startling transformation that earned it a coveted five-star gold rating from Visit England.
Hastings House stands in a charming garden square just off the seafront, giving visitors easy access to the beach. St Leonard’s and nearby Hastings are a delightful blend of old and new; the area has a rich history dating back to the time of the Norman Conquest yet boasts all of the attractions that one would expect of a bustling, modern seaside resort.
Owners Seng and Elizabeth Loy quickly spotted the property’s potential when they began their search to find suitable premises from which to launch their business.
They spent more than two years renovating the interior to give it a boutique hotel-style feel and opted for a sleek, modern theme throughout, although each room has its own unique look thanks to their imaginative use of colour and plush soft furnishings. Their efforts have secured Hastings House a place in both the Michelin Guide and Good Hotel Guide for 2012, and earned them a string of business and tourism awards.
Each of the rooms has a large, flat-screen television; free wireless internet access; a DVD player and selection of DVDs; and tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms have a mini bar with the exception of Room 1.
The beds are dressed in crisp, white linen sheets, snuggly duvets and soft pillows. The luxurious, spa-like bathrooms feature American-style power showers; plush, white cotton bathrobes and towels; and luxury toiletries. There are eight double rooms offering guests three different levels of accommodation – luxury double, deluxe king and superior king with sea view.
Children and babies are welcome. Pets are not allowed. Hastings House is a non-smoking B&B.
Prices range from £99 to £140 per night.
