Boutique & Breakfast

If it’s luxury bed and breakfast accommodation with the ‘wow factor’ that you’re looking for, then Kaywana Hall at Kingswear, Devon is the one for you. Located across the estuary from Dartmouth, this stunning, modern, contemporary-style house sits in twelve acres of woodland. It’s a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Dartmouth and the river; yet just a short walk from the ferries.

With Blue Flag beaches, picturesque villages and historic houses, it’s no wonder that Dartmouth is considered one of the best towns to visit in England. You can walk beside, or canoe along, the River Dart, or take one of the many boat trips from Dartmouth. With its brightly-painted houses, Kingswear has a Mediterranean feel, not to mention three great pubs, a village store and one of the biggest marinas in Devon. Nearby, you’ll find a tempting array of restaurants, cafés and bistros, most of which serve fresh, local produce.

Built in 1962, Kaywana Hall was one of only four Devon ‘butterfly houses’, with distinctive butterfly-shaped roofs. It had been neglected and was in desperate need of attention when it was bought by Tony Pithers and Gordon Craig seven years ago.

They employed local architect Stan Bolt, who advised them to strip away some of the clumsy later additions and keep the main part of the house true to its original design. Today, the restored house is a light and airy, modern version of the original.

The guest suites – Beech, Oak and Ash – are detached from the main house, allowing visitors to have their own space, without feeling too far away. Each one has its own separate entrance and private, outdoor seating area, as well as easy access to the heated, outdoor pool. Tony and Gordon have taken great care over the design of the bedrooms, which are decorated in a fresh, contemporary style, in keeping with the look and feel of the house. They are equipped with luxurious beds, quality linen, fluffy towels, widescreen televisions, free, wireless internet access, an iPod docking station, luxurious bathrooms with quality toiletries, a mini refrigerator, tea and coffee-making facilities and other refreshments,

Guests can choose from king-size, super king-size or twin options. Kaywana Hall sleeps six, so is perfect for small groups of friends.

Prices range from £155 to £175 per night for a double room, or from £165 to £195 per night for a suite. Single occupancy less £10 per night.

A fabulous, organic breakfast is served in the main house at a time to suit you and all of the ingredients are sourced from within a five-mile radius.

A traditional English breakfast is available daily, along with freshly-squeezed juices and summer berries or fruit compote with yoghurt, depending on the season. There are regular breakfast specials, from scrambled eggs with smoked salmon to Eggs Benedict.
