The Linen Shed is an eco-friendly gem of house, decorated and furnished in a delightful shabby chic style, and set in the pretty Kent village of Boughton-under-Blean.
The village is in the heart of Kent’s ‘foodie triangle’; the seaside town of Whitstable is just seven miles away; whilst the historic city of Canterbury, with its magnificent cathedral, is six miles away; and the quaint market town of Faversham just three miles away. Blean Wood, one of the most extensive areas of broadleaved woodland in Britain, is also nearby. This makes The Linen Shed a great place to enjoy a break that combines the best of coast, countryside and city.
The house has an appealing soft grey, clapboard exterior that would look perfectly at home in New England. Its owners, Vickie Miles and Graham Hassan, have decorated the interior with fabulous architectural finds and antiques sourced from reclamation yards. Their eye for beautiful vintage items, such as ornate radiators, pedestal bathtubs and French-style furniture, together with their soft and calming choice of colour schemes, has created a tranquil and unique place to stay. The house has been used as a photo shoot location on many occasions by a variety of magazines and newspapers.
A pretty garden surrounds the house, complete with its own Romany-style caravan and vegetable allotment, and there are two porches, where guests can sit and soak up their surroundings whilst contemplating the day ahead. The Linen Shed is a non-smoking B&B.
The three light-filled, double bedrooms are decorated in the same delicate palette and furnished with quirky, vintage finds. Beds are dressed in the finest Egyptian cotton linen.
You’ll find a jar of homemade granola to munch on if you get peckish, and there’s also plenty of reading material. In the bathrooms, there are fluffy towels, quality toiletries and home grown lavender, and you can enjoy a soak in a traditional, freestanding roll-top bath.
The three double rooms are available from £75 per night.
Breakfast is served in either the French-style dining room or, on warmer days, on the porch. However, if you’d prefer to stay in your room, let Vickie know and she’ll bring it upstairs to you. Vickie’s background as a trained chef is evident in the organic and locally-sourced breakfast options, which include scotch pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup; creamed mushrooms on toasted brioche; vine tomatoes with crispy Serrano ham; or potato rosti with eggs and bacon. Just what’s required before you set off for a day at one of the nearby beaches of go for a hearty walk through the rolling Kent countryside!
Upon request, Vickie is happy to provide a gourmet picnic for you to take to the beach, or to cook dinner for you. Vickie and Graham are welcoming and attentive hosts; nothing is too much trouble. They have won an Ethical Food Award for their use of local, high welfare, organic produce.
