A warm welcome awaits you at Loyton Lodge from the Barnes family who have been entertaining on their 300-acre Devonshire farm for over 40 years.  Isobel, a vibrant and highly experienced hostess at the Lodge, has an extremely flexible approach and personally attends to the details of each reservation to ensure each guest feels well accommodated and at home.

Loyton Lodge was named by the Times as “one of Britain’s best party houses” and we have to agree! Offering a modern take on the English country weekend, the Lodge is an exclusive, rural retreat with accommodation for groups of up to 20 guests – a great place to get together for a party or reunion.

Those looking for a quieter break will be pleased to know that rooms can also be booked individually on a bed and breakfast basis, and, time dependent, dinner can also be requested. The Loyton Kitchen takes pride in its approach to food and dining and the Lodge has always celebrated locally sourced seasonal produce; many of the ingredients come from the home farm and other fine food producers in the area. Welcome drinks or afternoon tea are served on arrival; a well-stocked honesty bar is left open for the use of B&B guests and there is an excellent cellar on site which can offer up some good value bin ends during the summer months!

Guests are encouraged to make use of the whole premises during their stay; you will find a relaxing atmosphere with a cosy and contemporary interior.  Ten luxury bedrooms, each with en suite bathroom, overlook green views; chic tea trays offer fresh milk, teas, ground coffee and homemade biscuits.  Guests can enjoy the billiard room, bar, sitting room with TV and open fires, and the extensive grounds are marvellous for dogs who are very welcome.

Throughout the year Isobel hosts a variety of events so you may wish to tie in your Exmoor visit with an on site event – be it live music, gourmet dinners or creative weekend workshops in life drawing, painting or printing.

Loyton is ideally situated to visit both Devon and Somerset.  This is a wonderful spot from which to explore Exmoor and the surrounding area which offers some stunning landscapes for walking, riding and cycling.  Nearby Dulveron was the setting for the film Land Girls and has lovely boutique shops, antiques, wine bars and tearooms in which to while away your time! There is also a famed second hand bookshop where you can pick up your copy of Lorna Doone..

With such fantastic produce in the West Country, food lovers can be pointed in the direction of some superb suppliers, farm shops and food festivals.  Or ask the chef to prepare you a delicious picnic for your day out!

Along with some good pubs in the area there are vineyards, historic towns, National Trust properties and Devon’s county town of Exeter all within easy reach.  Loyton is half an hour from the sea with good surfing within one hour’s drive of the property.

And for those just wanting to switch off, the pretty, rural setting provides a very peaceful retreat in which to relax and unwind – perfect for nature lovers and country enthusiasts.

Loyton Lodge was once a traditional Devon courtyard farm and the buildings were renovated by the Barnes family in 2003 to provide an elegant, contemporary house that brings together the best of town and country, old and new.

There is a billiard room, an honesty bar and a comfortable sitting room with an open fire for guests to enjoy.  For those wishing to relax and read, a selection of daily papers, local history and coffee table books, along with country sports and fashion magazines are readily available to guests.  A TV and speakers for music are also available.

The sunlit Breakfast Room can accommodate guests for breakfast, afternoon tea, refreshments and dinner.  The larger dining room can comfortably seat up to 28 guests for a dinner party.  Both rooms can be transformed for exclusive bookings in to a bespoke private dining area.

Loyton Lodge also has a rather magical safari-style tent in the grounds with a wooden floor, copper-topped bar and wood burning stove; this is a wonderful venue for a private party and can be hired out separately or together with the Lodge.

Dogs are most welcome and are encouraged to share the public areas of the Lodge with their owners, whilst overnight they can be accommodated in allocated guest bedrooms.  The extensive grounds give dogs plenty of space for daily exercise and a bootroom offers a good area for cleaning and feeding.

The property is fully accessible to disabled people.

Loyton Lodge offers private parking for up to approximately 20 vehicles.

The Lodge has ten, elegant, en suite guest bedrooms.  All are extremely spacious and uncluttered with fabulously comfortable King or SuperKing sized beds, White Co. linen and Tivoli radios.  Underfloor heating is provided in the bathrooms which feature freestanding rolltop baths and separate showers, with plenty of hot water provided by our environmentally conscious woodchip burner.  Lovely L’Occitane products are offered.

All rooms have great ‘green’ views of the grounds and countryside beyond; look out for red deer in the early morning mist, a darting kingfisher, strutting pheasants and barn owls.

Garden flowers and individual tea trays with fresh milk, ground coffee and a selection of teas, home baked biscuits and bottled mineral water are supplied and daily housekeeping is provided.

Prices for a double room, B&B, range from £80 to £140 including VAT per night.  Alternatively you can rent the whole house, fully serviced, from £2,300 including VAT.

Fabulous food is a huge part of the Loyton Lodge experience and delicious breakfasts are cooked to order by the chef.  Ingredients are always locally sourced; a sample menu of the daily breakfast includes seasonal fresh fruits and locally made yoghurt along with homemade granola.  This is followed by a full English with your choice of eggs, home produced sausage and bacon, black pudding, mushrooms and vine tomatoes.  Fresh bread and pastries come from the local baker in Bampton or made in the Loyton kitchen. Smoked salmon, kippers and porridge are also available on request when ordered in advance.

Evening meals are also available upon request.

We were given a warm greeting upon arrival and made to feel most welcome by our friendly hostess Isobel. Situated down a country lane well off the beaten track, Loyton Lodge is blessed with absolute peace and tranquillity interrupted only by the gentle relaxing sound of the fountain in the courtyard. Our bedroom was extremely comfortable and well equipped.
