At Musgrove House the emphasis is on creating the perfect balance between home-from-home comfort and a little luxury, and the end result is a stylish, modern city break destination where you’ll feel both relaxed and pampered.
This attractive period property has three bedrooms available on a B&B basis and is just a ten-minute walk from the centre of Chichester. With private, off-street parking for cars, motorbikes or bicycles, you can park up for a few days and explore the beautiful Roman city on foot. As well as a great choice of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, there’s the Chichester Festival Theatre, a magnificent Cathedral and other top visitors attractions, such as the Pallant House Gallery.
Musgrove House also makes a great base for those visiting Goodwood House or the nearby racecourse. In Chichester, you’re just a stone’s throw away from South Downs National Park, not to mention beaches, castles, country houses, gardens and estates. Top attractions in the region include Fontwell Races, Fishbourne Roman Palace, West Dean Gardens, Weald and Downland Open Air museum, Arundel Castle, and Bosham, a picturesque village with a stunning mediaeval church, where King Canute’s daughter is reputedly buried.
The house was once a store called Musgrove’s Provisions and, when the current owners, Robin and Jane Field set about restoring the premises, the original painted sign was still just visible on the exterior wall so they opted to incorporate it into the name.
Musgrove House has a four-star AA rating, as well as an award for the quality of the hearty home-cooked breakfast offered to guests.
Jane and Robin host a regularly changing gallery of artwork by local photographers and artists, which is on display throughout the house.
The decor throughout is unfussy, minimalist and modern, and there are luxurious finishing touches in the three en suite guest rooms, such as the Molton Brown bathroom products; posturepedic and pocket sprung mattresses; super king-sized silk duvets; Egyptian cotton bed linen and towels; flat-screen televisions and DVD players; free, high speed, wireless internet access; and iPod docking stations. Even the water is softened as part of Robin and Jane’s efforts to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms also have silent ceiling fans, which are wonderful on hot summer nights.
Musgrove House is a non-smoking B&B.
Room rates range from £80 to £100 per night during the week and £90 – £110 at weekends. Special rates usually apply on Bank Holidays and Goodwood events.
Breakfast is made using the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients, wherever possible, to ensure that guests have the best possible start to the day. Options include orange or apple juice; fresh fruit; assorted cereals; yogurt; toast with Robin and Jane’s delicious homemade jams and marmalade; fresh cafetiere coffee (both leaded and unleaded); a range of teas; or hot chocolate.
Guests can also select the freshly-cooked breakfast of their choice, which could be anything from a full English of eggs, bacon, O’Hagan’s award-winning sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms, and baked beans to one of a range of vegetarian options, which includes Robin and Jane’s homemade vegetarian sausages. Special dietary requirements can be catered for; please inform Robin and Jane at the time of booking.
