Old Town Hall House is a charming period property in the picture postcard village of Cley-Next-The-Sea that’s blessed with wonderful views of the surrounding salt marshes.

Owners Jennie and James Walker have recently converted it into a boutique B&B and also hold a Friday evening Supper Club. The couple welcomed their first guests in the autumn of 2014 and since then have achieved the coveted 5* rating by the AA, as well as a special award for their outstanding breakfast and dinner!

After working as a chef in some of Europe’s finest restaurants, including the Ritz in London and Lucas Carton in Paris, James is delighted to be cooking for guests at Old Town Hall House. His cooking style reflects his love of food and the natural flavours of high quality, local ingredients. Residents can opt to dine at the Friday evening Supper Club for just £30 per person, or on a Wednesday or Sunday for £25 per person. The tempting menus change with the seasons and make full use of the wealth of fresh ingredients available locally. Ask at the time of booking for details. Special dietary requirements can be catered for. Old Town Hall House is also fully licensed and offers a small, but carefully chosen list of wines, beers and aperitifs / digestifs in partnership with their local Master of Wine, Mark Lynton.

This part of the North Norfolk Coast is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) renowned for its endless horizons; vast, unspoilt beaches; and unique saltmarshes, which are a haven for all kinds of birdlife.

Stroll through the reed beds at Cley Marshes; enjoy afternoon tea at the iconic Cley Windmill; visit the Pinkfoot Gallery for fine art and sculpture; or snap up local stoneware at the Made in Cley studio.

Once an 18th Century grain store and later the Town Hall, this impressive flint building has been beautifully restored to offer boutique guest accommodation that manages to be homely and restful but, at the same time, stylish. The interior has a contemporary country look and feel.

Guests staying in the Sandpiper room have the added benefit of being able to soak up the sunshine and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the salt marshes from the seating area on the rooftop deck.

The en suite bedrooms all have king-sized, cast iron beds and cosy soft furnishings in a palette of soft blues and greens that echoes the tones of the mesmerising coastal landscape beyond the windows. Carefully chosen pieces of vintage furniture sit alongside contemporary artwork and locally made ornaments,

The bathrooms have either a high quality power shower or a generous bath; fluffy, white Egyptian cotton towels; and luxurious toiletries from a local producer. Beds are dressed in top quality, pocket sprung mattresses; 500-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets; and duck down duvets and pillows.

The guest rooms have complimentary Norfolk magazines; quality tea and coffee-making facilities, including crispy Gavotte wafers; a Roberts’s radio; and free, wireless internet access.

Prices range from £95 to £130 per room per night, including breakfast with a reduction of £10 per night for single occupancy. Evenings meals are available for an additional charge.

With a seasoned chef preparing breakfast, it goes without saying that guests are in for a treat. James cooks a delicious full English using locally sourced ingredients, including bacon from rare breed pigs, free range eggs from Wayland Farm and Donaldson’s Orkney black pudding.

Other options include Eggs Benedict, Cley Smokehouse kippers, American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, and Cley Smokehouse smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Guests can also enjoy freshly-baked continental pastries and sourdough toast served with delicious preserves that are homemade by James using local fruit. A selection of cereals and Old Town Hall House Granola can be enjoyed with milk or yoghurt and Norfolk lavender honey.
