This grand country house near Denbigh in North Wales offers all the facilities that you’d expect from a luxury hotel, including a swimming pool, suites with hot tubs, and superior rooms with four poster beds and roll top baths. What’s more, dinner is included in the price!
It’s a romantic setting for a break, but also makes a memorable setting for a wedding or wedding reception.
As with all the best B&Bs, it’s unstuffy, welcoming and the owners, Bre and Graham Carrington-Sykes, pride themselves on offering a friendly and personal service.
Pentre Mawr Country House is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty just below Offa’s Dyke, a long distance walking route through the Welsh borders. It’s within easy reach of Chester, Snowdonia, Conwy, the Welsh Coast and the Horseshow Pass at Llangollen. There are a number of historic castles in the area and the smallest city in Wales, St. Asaph, is a short drive away. The picturesque countryside provides plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing and even falconry.
Pentre Mawr Country House is a working farm and has been in Graham’s family for 400 years. Since taking over, Graham and Bre have carried out an extensive programme of refurbishments to create a classic, country style that perfectly suits the property’s impressive proportions. Despite the elegance and grandeur of the fixtures and fittings, care has been taken to ensure that the house retains a cosy and informal feel. Guests can unwind in the large drawing room or the study, or, during the summer months, on the terrace by the beautiful salt water swimming pool. There’s also a bar serving a range of alcoholic beverages.
This property has a five-star rating; is featured in the AA’s Best in Britain Accommodation Guide and is a member of the prestigious Welsh Rarebits Group of Welsh Gold Hotels. Canine companions are more than welcome, as are hen and stag parties.
In addition to the guest rooms in the main house, there are two suites in the Gardener’s Cottage next door, which are decorated in a more contemporary style. Each has its own private terrace and hot tub. All of the rooms and suites have tea and coffee-making facilities; a flat-screen television; an iPod docking station; robes and slippers. The suites also have a refrigerator and coffee machine.
Those looking for a truly unique experience may prefer to stay in one of the safari-style ‘glamping’ lodges in the grounds, each of which has its own private terrace and hot tub. This is camping at its most luxurious.
Room rates start from £180 for a superior room per night, £210 for a safari-style ‘glamping’ lodge and £230 for a cottage suite. All room rates include dinner, as well as bed and breakfast.
Both Bre and Graham love to cook and they source the finest ingredients from local suppliers. They’ve reinstated the vegetable garden so that they can grow produce to use in their attractive restaurant, which has views of the terrace and swimming pool. Everything on offer is homemade, even the bread. The evening menu changes daily and there’s also a vegetarian menu. Other dietary requirements can also be catered for.
This is a classic English country house wedding venue with a difference; guests have the option of marrying in an authentic African Safari Lodge and sleeping under canvas on their wedding night. It’s one of the few wedding venues where you can let your imagination run riot to create a truly unique and memorable day. Contact the owners direct to discuss your requirements.
