Fabulous food and a relaxed home-from-home environment await visitors to this attractive period property on the edge of the village of Banwell, south of Bristol.

Just two miles from junction 21 of the M5, Stonebridge is a handy pit-stop for those travelling to or from Devon and Cornwall, and well placed for visitors keen to extend their stay to explore the wider region. A variety of West Country attractions, including Wells, with its beautiful Cathedral and popular Country Market; the Cheddar Gorge and Caves; the historic city of Bath; and Bristol, home to Brunel’s Clifton Bridge; are all within easy reach. Nearby, you’ll also find Tyntesfield House and Gardens, a stunning National Trust property, and Noah’s Ark Farm Zoo, which is great for families with younger children.

Bristol Airport is just 11 miles away, and a pick-up/drop-off service can be provided.

Although the rooms are offered on a bed and breakfast basis, Liz – who owns and runs Stonebridge  alongside her husband, Richard – is a great cook and more than happy to provide dinner in the evenings. We guarantee you’ll be impressed; Liz has cooked professionally in the past and loves entertaining, serving fruit and vegetables fresh from her garden whenever she can.If you’d like to take advantage of this option, please request evening meals at the time of booking as Liz agrees the menus in advance with guests.

The house, which is listed, was originally two separate cottages, so the two guest bedrooms have a separate entrance. There’s a cosy sitting room for visitors to use, complete with a wood burning stove. One of the guest bedrooms is located on the ground floor and the other on the first floor. Outside there’s a spacious garden for guests to enjoy, with a sitting area for use during the summer months, as well as a croquet lawn and clock golf.

The house is decorated in an elegant but unfussy country style perfectly suited to its pretty exterior and rural location.

Free, wireless internet access is provided. Dogs are welcome, but not on the beds.

The guest bedroom on the ground floor has twin beds and a stylish bathroom with a bath, separate shower and under-floor heating. On the first floor, there’s a delightful double with its own shower room. The beds are dressed in pure cotton linen, and in the bathrooms there are plush towels and quality toiletries.

The rooms are available from £75 to £80 per night, based on two sharing, or from £55 to £60 per night for single occupancy.

Given Liz’s passion for great food, you’re guaranteed a delicious breakfast. This is served in the dining room, which is located next to the guest rooms and where a wood burning stove flickers during the winter months.

The traditional full English breakfast is not to be missed, but there are lighter options for those who prefer. Fresh orange juice, a platter of seasonal fruits, local eggs, and homemade marmalade and jams are always on offer.

Your say...

The accommodation is a lovely old farmhouse, and the comfort and facilities are very high quality. Much more than you'd expect from a B&B, or even most luxury hotels.
