The Castle House is a newly refurbished luxury B&B overlooking the large cobbled square at the heart of the North Yorkshire market town of Richmond. It reopened for business in the spring of 2013, so visitors to Boutique and Breakfast can be among the first to stay in the beautiful, newly-decorated rooms and experience the warm welcome that awaits them from Lucy and Ian, the owners of The Castle House.

Lucy and Ian pride themselves on the high quality of their customer service and make every effort to cater for any special requirements that guests may have. They aim to ensure that guests feel pampered and relaxed, whether they’re visiting on business or enjoying a break.

This beautiful Georgian house sits in the shadow of Richmond’s Norman castle, which dates back to 1071 and is well worth exploring. It’s just a short stroll from the town’s restaurants, cafés, shops, museums and amenities.

Richmond is often referred to as ‘the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales’ town because of its proximity to the National Park and makes a good base from which to explore the wider region. Attractions in Richmond itself include a 15th century Friary Tower, a Georgian Theatre and the stunning garden at Millgate House, which has the River Swale and waterfalls as it dramatic backdrop. The garden attracts rave reviews and draws visitors from far and wide.

The eclectic interior of The Castle House suits the property’s period character because of the way that Lucy and Ian have cleverly combined the best of old and new, giving the house a welcoming, contemporary feel.

They’ve taken great care to preserve and highlight original features, whilst creating a look and ambience that any 21st century boutique hotel would be proud of, but with the charm and attention to detail that only a bijou B&B can offer.

Guests are greeted with a complimentary glass of wine, or tea/coffee on arrival, and chocolates are left on the door handles of the rooms each night.  There’s a laundry service; drying facilities; secure, onsite cycle storage; and packed lunches are available if required.

Each of the four en suite guest bedrooms has its own bespoke look, although they all have the same cosy feel, thanks to the use of opulent soft furnishings, stunning feature wallpapers, rich colour schemes and carefully chosen pieces of antique furniture.

The rooms all have free, wireless internet access; a flat-screen television; plush bath robes; tea and coffee making facilities, and other refreshments; and luxury toiletries. Some rooms feature freestanding roll top baths, four-poster beds and open fires, so ask at the time of booking if you have a preference for any of these features.

Prices for a double room range from £70 to £110 per night, or from £55 per night for single occupancy.

Breakfast is made using locally-sourced ingredients wherever possible. In addition to a selection of cereals, fruit juices, yoghurt and fruit, there’s a choice of cooked breakfasts, from the traditional Full English to scrambled egg with smoked salmon.
