Located just a stone’s throw from the town’s charming seafront promenade and the De La Warr pavilion, The Driftwood occupies a classic Victorian building which has recently undergone a major refurbishment. The brainchild of experienced hotelier Seng Loy and under the guidance of London interior designer Mark Standing, The Driftwood Bexhill has been carefully created, achieving an overall mix of authentic luxury.
Cited as the birthplace of British motor racing and home to the De La Warr Pavilion, one of the UK’s finest examples of modernist architecture and now a major arts centre, Bexhill on Sea also has a two mile stretch of level promenade and beach to enjoy. With beach huts available to hire, rock pools to explore and sea that is safe for many water and windsports including sailing, rowing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and angling, there is plenty for visitors to do. The Bexhill Museum offers local history, archaeology, fashion and Bexhill’s motor heritage collections, whilst the picturesque, tranquil Bexhill Old Town, is set inland above the town centre with antique shops and charming architecture. Formerly a neglected three-storey townhouse, the property underwent a major refurbishment programme during the latter part of 2016. The Driftwood now offers guests a choice of wonderful food in a relaxed and informal environment, along with six eclectic and beautifully designed hotel bedrooms. With its unique dining experience combined with thoughtfully designed boutique accommodation, guests now have the chance to experience the very best of both worlds in this elegant seaside resort.
The laid back rustic “Brasserie style” restaurant with its timber flooring, exposed brickwork and oak panelling, creates a stylish but unpretentious backdrop for relaxed lunches as well as intimate dinners. Located on the ground floor of the property, the restaurant sits behind a traditional style frontage that can open up in the warmer weather. Featuring an open style kitchen, guests are permitted views of talented head chef Michael Roessl and his team at work.
When it comes to accommodation, each of the six boutique bedrooms have their own distinct character and offer a wonderful balance of contemporary and traditional comfort. All the rooms are well-equipped ensuring guests experience the very best in boutique hospitality during their stay.
The Driftwood has collaborated with leading interior designers to offer six beautiful and eclectic bedrooms. Thoughtfully designed with interesting and quirky furniture, wonderful mid-century style light fittings and bags of character, each room has been carefully created to inspire, calm and comfort. Whilst each room is different with its own distinct personality, all feature a mixture of architectural treatments including oak wall cladding, exposed character brickwork and traditional wall panelling in quirky heritage colours.
The simple muted colours and subtle blend of classic and contemporary design, make for a very cool and comfortable experience. Each room at The Driftwood has a classic style, fully tiled en-suite bathroom with a generous walk in rain shower and simple traditional sanitary ware and fittings. All rooms have king or super king Hypnos beds, stylish cushions and throws and large bespoke headboards, most of which feature chesterfield style leather buttons.
All rooms offer tea and Lavazza coffee making facilities, a retro style fridge and radio, large wall mounted flat screen TV’s, plus complimentary wi-fi throughout. Guests can also enjoy the fluffy towels and robes, along with the luxury amenities supplied by Brown of London.

The Driftwood offers a truly delicious breakfast. You will be spoilt for choice with the various cereals, baked pastries, fruit, natural yoghurts and crunchy granola available along with fresh orange juice. Their cooked breakfast offers all the usual choices including eggs and bacon with everything freshly cooked to order. They also have a continental and vegetarian option too and wherever possible all of their ingredients are sourced from local suppliers. Breakfast is served between 8:00am to 10:30am Monday to Friday and 8:00am to 11:00am on weekends and Bank Holidays.
Lunch is a wonderful relaxed affair of tasty dishes, delicious desserts and a carefully selected wine list to match and is served from 12.00pm to 3:00pm.
The Driftwood is fast becoming known for its cakes and puddings which are available throughout the day. From apple strudel to cheese-cake extravagance, cake and coffee / tea is always top notch. Their range of teas include classic blends and fruity infusions and they have carefully selected their coffee supplier (Union Coffee) to ensure fantastic coffee that is ethically sourced.
Guests can enjoy a dinner menu that is both interesting and accessible inspired by Head Chef Michael Roessl’s native Austria. The Driftwood’s modern Austrian fusion menu has something for everyone with dinner being served from 6:30pm to 9.30pm Monday to Thursday and from 6:30pm to 10.00pm on Friday’s, Saturday’s and Bank Holidays. The restaurant is closed on Sunday evening’s.
