Karen Price has a knack for creating jaw-droppingly beautiful interiors that look like they belong in the pages of a glossy lifestyle magazine, yet also manages to give them a relaxed and welcoming vibe that instantly makes her guests feel at home.

Her project, the Town House, has all the style of its sister properties The Secret Escape also in Bath and The Post House in Chewton Mendip. It’s a sensitively restored Georgian townhouse in the heart of beautiful Bath – a World Heritage site – offering self-catering accommodation for up to twelve people close to all of the city’s major attractions. The Thermae Spa, with its amazing rooftop pool, is just a ten-minute walk away – unless you find yourself distracted en route by the wealth of shopping opportunities in the Milsom Street area! The Assembly Rooms (a must-see), and world famous architectural masterpieces The Circus and The Royal Crescent, are less than 200 metres away.

Karen’s passion for restoring properties back to their former glory is very much in evidence at The Town House and she has used traditional techniques wherever possible. She pays extraordinary attention to detail; she used lime wash on the walls to create a certain softness and commissioned skilled craftsmen to reinstate the Georgian window shutters. The original wooden floors have also been given a new lease of life.

Karen’s painstaking work emphasises the elegant proportions of the house and ensures that its timeless beauty is allowed to shine through; it’s almost as if she has stripped away the layers of time. Subtle shades of white and soft grey make the most of the natural light that streams in through the windows, and rooms are furnished with a carefully chosen mix of antiques and contemporary pieces. The overall effect is unfussy and pared down yet, at the same time, chic and luxurious.

On the upper floors there are four light and airy double bedrooms; three state-of-the-art wet rooms; and an en suite bathroom with a cast iron, double-ended, free standing slipper bath.

The large drawing room is a great space for pre-dinner drinks or simply relaxing in front of the 42-inch television. The kitchen/dining room is equipped with everything that even the keenest of cooks could possibly require – there’s even a separate drinks refrigerator. Up to eight people can sit comfortably around the large refectory-style table and there’s a 32-inch television in case you’re too comfortable to move from your seat after dinner. The balcony, which is accessed from the kitchen/dining room, has wonderful views of the city and valley beyond, making it the perfect spot for a sun downer after a busy day of sightseeing. There’s a utility room in the basement, complete with washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing facilities, as well as a separate toilet.

Fluffy towels, robes and luxury toiletries are provided in the bathrooms, and the beds are dressed in white Egyptian cotton linen.

There’s free wireless internet access throughout. A parking permit for one vehicle can be provided by prior arrangement, and there are a number of pay and display spaces nearby.

The Townhouse can accommodate up to twelve people, making it ideal for groups of friends or family. You can book a three-night midweek break, a two or three night weekend break or for the entire week. Please note arrival days are Friday’s and Monday’s.
