Boutique & Breakfast

This truly unique boutique B&B in Leith, which is less than two miles from Edinburgh, is almost as characterful as its charming owner Wallace Shaw.

Following an illustrious career in the fashion industry, Wallace has created his very own ‘arthouse’ in Leith Assembly Rooms. The classic lines and imposing period features of the Grade A Listed building are the perfect backdrop for his eclectic collection of art and objets, many of which have been collected on his travels around the world.

Wallace makes it his mission to allow his guests to immerse themselves in art and culture – he regularly hosts art exhibitions, music recitals and whisky tasting at the Arthouse. In the past, it has also been the venue for some of the smaller scale Edinburgh Fringe Festival events. As well as a baby grand piano, Wallace has a vast collection of classical, folk and jazz music CDs for guests to enjoy. Cookery lessons can be arranged for guests and Wallace’s Arthouse also makes a great venue for celebrations, complete with catering.

Leith is located on the shores of the Firth of Forth and was Scotland’s primary port for centuries. Once home to a vast whaling fleet, its fortunes have risen and fallen like the tides. Since the 1980s, the area has undergone a major revival. Today, it’s a vibrant community and appealing place to stay just a stone’s throw from Edinburgh’s finest attractions. There are great public transport links with the city centre, but you’ll find a wealth of great places to eat on your doorstep, including three Michelin-starred restaurants less than a five-minute walk away!

Although Wallace has taken care to allow the heritage and grandeur of Leith’s 19th Assembly Rooms to shine through, the stylish interior that he has created is quirky and totally original. It’s a clever and visually appealing blend, where antiques, contemporary art and sleek super modern furniture sit comfortable alongside one another against a calming, predominantly white backdrop.

Guests are welcome to use the light and airy lounge. Free, wireless internet access is provided.

The two guest bedrooms all have stylish en suite shower rooms with classic white fittings and fixtures. Beds are dressed in pretty white antique linen. Tea and coffee-making facilities, a small cooler refrigerator, and fluffy white towels and robes are provided.

Rooms are priced at £120 per night, based on two people sharing, or from £99 for single occupancy.

A healthy, continental breakfast of cereals, fresh fruit, fruit juices, seeded breads, herbal teas and freshly brewed coffee is included in the price.

You have found a wonderful place to stay and Boutique and Breakfast is committed to giving you a personalised service so that you can find the right room at the right price. Simply fill in our enquiry form and within 24 hours you will receive a response from Wallace’s Arthouse tailored to your needs. This will be in the form of either a telephone call or an email.
