Accommodation Information

This beautiful country house set in Scottish Border countryside not only offers luxurious bed and breakfast accommodation, but also has its own fine dining restaurant, which is known for serving some of the best food in the region.

Windlestraw Lodge is located close to the village of Walkerburn on the edge of the Tweed Valley Forest Park. With outstanding views of the Traquair and Elibank Forests, and over the majestic River Tweed and Tweed Valley, it’s a peaceful and romantic setting.

The house is owned by chef Alan Reid and his wife, Julie, who, together, have more than 30 years of experience in the catering and hospitality industry. Alan takes great pride in sourcing the finest produce from local suppliers, as well as growing some of the ingredients in his own kitchen garden.

There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities in the local area, from walking and mountain biking to fishing and golf, as well as the chance to spot wildlife, including osprey. The Border towns of Peebles, Kelso, Melrose and Galashiels are within easy reach.

Property

Windlestraw Lodge has a classy and elegant interior that perfectly complements its attractive stone exterior and beautifully landscaped gardens.

The Reid family also run an interior design company, and many of the pieces of furniture, lighting and accessories that you see around the house are available to buy.

The property, which has a four-star gold rating, is available for meetings, intimate parties and other celebrations, and is licensed to host small, civil weddings.

Larger groups of up to 12 overnight guests can have the entire house to themselves and the dinner menu tailored to their specific requirements. Children under the age of ten are only allowed in the restaurant in the evenings when guests have exclusive use of the house, but Alan is more than happy to serve high tea to younger children between 5pm and 6pm.

Rooms

Most of the six individually-styled bedrooms have stunning views over the Tweed Valley. In keeping with the rest of the house, the contemporary elegance of their design hints at the Reid family’s passion for interiors; think soothing colour schemes, unique and individual pieces of furniture, and opulent soft furnishings.

All of the rooms have en suite bathrooms with a bath with an overhead shower, with the exception of the luxurious Willison Room, which has an elegant roll top bath and separate shower, and the deluxe McIntosh Room, which has an original Edwardian bath and separate shower.

Double room rates range from £170 to £210 per night (based on two people sharing on a bed and breakfast basis). A single occupancy discount is available.  A fabulous four-course dinner is priced at £50 per person, although special dinner, bed and breakfast deals are sometimes available.

Breakfast

As you’d expect from a noted fine dining venue, Alan’s breakfast, which is served in the elegant dining room, is a deliciously indulgent affair. The extensive menu includes a variety of hot and cold options that make the best use of the wealth of fantastic produce available locally.
