Wyvis offers visitors a rare opportunity to stay in a charmingly pretty Victorian mill worker’s cottage that has been tastefully converted into boutique B&B accommodation boasting a five star gold rating from Visit Scotland.

Dating back to 1845, the cottage is located in the little town of Tillicoultry in Clackmannanshire, which, as Scotland’s smallest county, is fondly known as the ‘Wee County’. Not far from the historic city of Stirling, Tillicoultry was once famous for its woollen mills. Today, it makes a great base for a wide range of activity breaks, from hillwalking in the nearby Ochils to cycling, fishing and golfing. The famous golf courses at Gleneagles and St. Andrews are less than an hour away. Wyvis is within easy reach of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Loch Leven, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

Owners Irene and Terry pride themselves on offering a warm Scottish welcome, award-winning breakfasts and traditional hospitality. On arrival, guests receive a complimentary afternoon tea featuring Irene’s wonderful homemade cakes. We defy you not to indulge!

If you’re marking a special occasion, you can also request a celebratory, vintage-style afternoon tea complete with a glass or two of fizz. Ask at the time of booking for details.

Wyvis is Terry and Irene’s family home and has been a successful B&B for more than 20 years. With just two guest bedrooms, both of which are located on the first floor and offer fantastic views of the Ochils, guests are guaranteed a friendly, personal service. The cottage is decorated in a cosy style that effortlessly blends antique furniture with smart, modern fixtures and fittings.

On the ground floor, there’s an elegant guest lounge where you can enjoy a wee dram of malt whisky, play board games or watch television, including movies on Netflix. There’s free wireless internet access throughout.

There are drying facilities for walkers, cyclists and bikers, and laundry facilities are available on request. The enclosed rear garden has an area of hard standing for motorcycles and secure storage for bicycles.

Ben Cleuch is a very spacious double room with a king-sized double bed. It has exclusive use of its own large, private bathroom next door, which features an original cast iron enamel bathtub and a separate shower cubicle.

Kingseat is a spacious double room with a modern en suite bathroom featuring a large, walk-in shower. The showers in both bathrooms are top of the range, and there are also large mirrors with integral lighting and automatic demisting; plush robes and slippers; luxury towels; and toiletries from Scottish Fine Soaps

In the bedrooms, you’ll find high quality, solid oak furniture; crisp, white, Egyptian cotton sheets from the White Company; plump duvets (or blankets if you prefer); the latest editions of a selection of magazines; and a refreshment tray with fresh ground coffee, a choice of teas and Irene’s scrummy homemade biscuits.

Prices start at £110 per room per night, based on two people sharing.

As you’d expect from a B&B with a ‘Taste Our Best’ Award from Visit Scotland, only the finest, local ingredients are used to create the dishes on the breakfast menu. To start with, there’s a buffet of fruit juices, cereals, homemade granola, homemade yoghurt and fresh fruit compote. Other options include a platter of seasonal fresh fruit; Scottish Porridge; a traditional Scottish breakfast of bacon, free range eggs, venison sausages, black pudding, mushrooms and vine tomatoes; scrambled eggs topped with slices of Scottish Islands oak smoked salmon, smoked haddock from the Fife coast topped with poached eggs and served with vine tomatoes – to name just a few!

Vegetarians are well catered for; the sautéed mushrooms and cherry tomatoes served on toasted, homemade grain bread and topped with melted Island cheddar cheese is a firm favourite. Bread, muffins, scones and pancakes are homemade daily. Home grown fruits, herbs and vegetables are used wherever possible.
