The creation of this bijou, boutique, luxury self-catering accommodation in the centre of historic Winchester was a labour of love for owner Hannah McIntyre, who masterminded every minute detail herself.
Hannah bought the building in 2012 and spent 11 months overseeing a mammoth restoration project. The property, which started life as a stable was stripped back to its bare bones and this enabled Hannah to use her creative vision to full effect. Hannah’s ethos was to create a place where her guests could unwind and enjoy all the comforts that they appreciate in their own homes. For the first 5 years 16a was run as hannah’s b&b, now a luxury self-catered home this beautiful property has a romantic look that manages to be both elegant and cosy at the same time.
16a is in a great location, just a couple of minutes’ walk from Winchester’s bustling High Street, yet tucked away on a peaceful mews street, making it a relaxing place to retire to after a day of sightseeing or shopping.
Winchester is steeped in history and has much to offer the visitor, including opportunities to explore the medieval castle and fabulous gothic cathedral, where you can climb the tower. Visit the Great Hall to see the Round Table. Take a walk round the ‘hogwarts’ library of Winchester College. Wolvesley Castle offers you the chance to view the remains of the old Bishops residence and you can also visit the grave of literary heroine Jane Austen, who spent her final days in Winchester. Stroll along the Water Meadows and amble up St Catherine’s Hill to take it all in from a different height. For those who venture beyond the city itself, the South Downs National Park is waiting to be explored.
16a offers guests totally unique and stylish luxury self-catering accommodation, in three beautifully appointed independent bedrooms with shared living space, or the whole house is a lovely place to come together with family and friends.
Hannah dreamt of the vision she had for her boutique guest experience long before it became a reality and designed every aspect of the property interior herself. Eclectic, unexpected touches give the place heaps of character, including Hannah’s clever use of reclaimed materials and fun accessories.
