Absolutely Fabulous meets The Good Life! Beckets Barn luxury eco B&B is an outstanding destination bed and breakfast experience, just made for two. A luxury eco king-size suite, designed with an emphasis on the organic, natural and ethical, located in Fairfield, one of the ‘lost villages’ of Romney Marsh.
There has been no expense spared on this spacious, deliciously decorated, self-contained suite; enhanced by environmental understanding, without comprising the quality accommodation you would hope for. Completely private with no other guests to bother you, a fully equipped kitchen should you wish to cook up your own culinary creations, and exclusive access to an on-site gym and indoor heated swimming pool. Breakfast is served in the main barn and oh wow, an absolute delight, you wouldn’t want to miss!
Romney Marsh is well known for its distinctive natural beauty and rich history. One hundred square miles of remote and refreshing countryside to explore, five of the finest beaches in Kent, not to mention the many historic towns, churches and quaint villages to discover.
Your dedicated hosts, David and Janet, say they love the peace and tranquility of this beautiful area and enjoy the barn’s proximity to Rye, Tenterden and the Kent coast. There is an abundance of things to do: walking, cycling, watersports and sightseeing. Just a few minutes walk from the barn, the iconic St Thomas à Becket church that has inspired poets, artists and filmmakers and dates from the 13th century, is literally a famous landmark right on the doorstep. The barn is also close to the nature reserves at Dungeness and Rye Harbour.
David and Janet moved to the barn in 2015 and we think they’ve got their boutique accommodation spot on. If you feel like slipping away for a romantic weekend or recharging your batteries and getting active, we think you’ll be hard pushed to find anywhere better than Beckets Barn. Tea and homemade cake offered on arrival (always a good start), first class facilities with all the mod cons, beautifully styled and complimented by organic fayre with that ‘home away from home’ atmosphere we all crave, so close to London yet in the midst of nature. With care and finesse and a natural flair for the green and organic lifestyle they choose to share, guests are treated to a real taste of the good life!
Beckets Barn dates from 1620 and stands in a relaxing Mediterranean garden with raised beds and a koi carp pond, set against the very distinctive and bewitching landscape of Romney Marsh.
The king-size suite has been tastefully converted from what was originally a cow shed and is set apart from the main barn by a courtyard. The accommodation is self-contained and very private, perfect for a romantic break.
The suite is furnished with individual and unique furniture and local artwork by local artists. It has its own front door and private patio with access to a well-equipped home gym and 17m indoor heated swimming pool.
Your environmentally conscious hosts are very proud of their green credentials, currently waiting to be assessed for their green award by Green Tourism, they are striving to be eco-friendly in every aspect:
“Our wish to minimise our environmental impact does not affect the luxuriousness of our accommodation. Our green efforts include the installation of solar panels and an air source heat pump to heat and provide hot water for the suite and swimming pool. Behind the scenes we use biodgradeable and compostable bin bags and our aim is to have no single use plastic. Our pet pygmy goats Martha and Molly also provide us with fertiliser for our veg patch. There is a Podpoint on the property to charge electric and hybrid cars.”
A car is must to get around and really appreciate the locality (the remote location means buses do not pass the Barn) but why not take advantage of the local terrain and hire bikes and get them delivered for your stay? Maps of cycle routes are provided.
You can also indulge in some retail therapy at the Ashford Designer Outlet, only a few minutes walk from the International Station. It is currently being extended to add an extra 50 premium brand stores.
Appledore Station, just a couple of miles away, has services to Ashford and to Brighton with stops at Rye, Hastings and Eastbourne. Ten minutes on the train from Appledore or 25 minutes by car is Ashford International with high speed trains to London that take just 39 minutes.
The open plan suite has every luxury provided, making it feel like home.
The king-size organic bed is dressed in crisp organic cotton linens and natural bedding. The luxury en-suite wet room is stocked with fluffy white towels, dressing gowns and slippers. Natural toiletries made locally in Rye are provided.
