The local village of Spreyton is rural and quaint, best known for its relation to the tale of ‘Old Uncle Tom Cobley and all’, it holds a lot of character and charm. It has a pub, a very quaint village shop and a garage.
Exeter is easily reached and has a wide variety of shops, restaurants and, of course, its historic Cathedral. Both north and south coasts are also easily accessible and offer very different characteristics. Dartmoor is only six miles away. There are a number of National Trust properties in the area, most notably Castle Drogo and Arlington Court. The wonderful RHS gardens at Rosemoor are certainly worth a visit, as is the Dartington Crystal Factory, which are both based in Great Torrington. Golf, fishing and riding are all available in the area, and cycle hire can be arranged on the Tarka Trail at various locations.

And when you need a little sustenance, be sure to check out the hospitality of the moorland pubs and restaurants. Widecombe-on-the-Moor is definitely worth a visit.
East Hillerton House is nestled in the heart of Mid Devon; rural yet accessible, only six miles from the A30, which provides great access to the M5 or further South to Cornwall.
When Nicola Blandin moved to the property with her husband in 2013 it was rural bliss they were seeking and they fell in love with the area and with Devon. They took on East Hillerton House as a project and have enjoyed making it a warm and welcoming place; a rural retreat with modern facilities, and with very little light pollution some amazing night skies can be enjoyed too.
The previous owner told them that they would find the silence deafening!! He was right. Nicola and Kerry think it is perfectly peaceful but too good to keep to themselves; offering boutique bed and breakfast so they can share their little piece of Devon heaven with you!
There are three bed and breakfast rooms at East Hillerton House, all offer peace and quiet and comfort. All have spectacular views of the rolling Devon countryside, and of Dartmoor National Park in the distance, a mere six miles away.
Each room is very individual, and each one offers something a little different, but all to a high standard.
In the east wing, with its own separate access is the Balcony Suite. A large spacious room with an en-suite shower room, King size bed, sofa and balcony, a wonderful place to relax.
In the main house the Green Room offers a King size bed and a beautifully presented shower room.
The twin room is very quirky and offers a huge walk-in shower and its own private snug.
All rooms have TV and excellent WiFi, soft towels, bath robes, slippers and more! Your hosts also like to keep a few ‘extras’ as a surprise for when you arrive!
Prices are from £50 per person per night with discount offered for stays of two or more nights.
Breakfast is served in a lovely Garden Room with rolling countryside views. If the weather is exceptionally warm, then breakfast can also be served in the garden on the decking.
