If you enjoy staying in boutique accommodation with oodles of period charm and character, then you’ll fall in love with this beautifully converted square kiln oast house in the picturesque Weald of Kent.
Located five miles south of the historic market town of Cranbook, Field Green Oast is on a quiet country lane between the villages of Sandhurst and Hawkhurst in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
It’s a great base from which to explore everything from fairytale castles, including Bodiam and Leeds, to the famous gardens at Sissinghurst and Great Dixter. Nearby Bedgebury Forest is lovely spot for walking or mountain biking and hosts open air concerts during the summer months. Those who dare can tackle Go Ape’s zip wire assault course in the treetops.
The beach at Camber Sands is just a 20-minute drive away, and the historic town of Rye, one of the famous Cinque Ports, is even closer. You’ll find a great choice of award-wining pubs and restaurants in the nearby towns of Cranbrook and Tenterden, including one Michelin-starred restaurant less than 15 minutes drive away.
Field Green Oast has been awarded the coveted 5 Star Gold and Breakfast award by Quality in Tourism. With just three guest bedrooms, you’re guaranteed personal service and a home-from-home environment.
Field Green Oast is the home of Ian and Cathy Miles, who have given the interior of their charming traditional oast house a stylish, contemporary make-over. They’ve paired sleek modern furnishings with opulent statement wallpapers and plush soft furnishings.
Guests are welcome to relax in the light and airy guest lounge, where a log fire burns during the colder months. French doors lead out onto the terrace and the glorious garden beyond.
There’s plenty of free car parking on the driveway, plus there’s a wash down facility and secure parking in the barn for bicycles.
The Wool Room takes its name from the snug, pure wool bedding. It also features crisp, high thread count bed linen and an en suite bath and shower room.
The Silk Room features luxurious silk bedding, which is also paired with crisp, high thread count linen. Guests can enjoy a long, indulgent soak in the extra deep tubby tub bath in The Silk Room’s en suite private bathroom. There’s also a walk-in shower with an overhead monsoon shower and a separate hand held shower.
The Linen Room has a king-sized bed dressed in the finest linen. It also has an en suite shower room with a large, walk-in, monsoon overhead shower with body jets and a hand held attachment, and also benefits from underfloor heating.
All three rooms have free, wireless internet access; a flat screen television; complimentary refreshments; a mini fridge; garden views; fluffy robes and towels; and locally produced toiletries from Romney Marsh Wools.
Prices range from £140.00 to £160.00 per room per night, based on two people sharing.
At Field Green Oast, breakfast is high on quality but low on food miles. Ian and Cathy have received Kent Breakfast accreditation in recognition of the fact that they source more than 60 per cent of the ingredients from within the county. The preserves are homemade; you can’t get more local than that! They have a hygiene rating of five (out of five). Breakfast is served in the dining room or on the terrace during warm weather. There is a range of tempting options to choose from, a full Kentish Breakfast to Pancakes and Bacon or Eggs Benedict.
