Glanyrafon – Riverside Cottage is a boutique holiday cottage with immense charm and character in a spectacular natural setting; nestled in the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains in Carmarthenshire, South West Wales.
This 18th Century former Woollen Mill with wonky windows, thick walls and eclectic flooring has been renovated and converted into a luxury two bedroomed holiday cottage, furnished with a mixture of antiques, modern and vintage pieces. Quality fixtures and fittings, modern conveniences and stylish bathrooms marry beautifully with the historical charm and quirky character of the property.
By day you can sit outside on the raised terrace amidst the fragrance of flowers and listen to the bird song. At night, with the chiminea burning, relax to the sound of the stream running by. There’s a covered veranda just outside the cottage with views over the garden to the stream and mountains, the perfect spot to have your morning coffee.
A real highlight of Glanyrafon is the fabulous eco friendly wood-fired hot tub, filled with pure Welsh spring water, sitting on decking underneath an old oak tree. This part of Wales is a Dark Skies Area, can you think of anything more heavenly than watching shooting stars and, from April, the Milky Way, while you relax with a glass of something special, under the starry night sky?
That’s a lot of unbridled pleasure before you’ve even left the cottage to explore. Located on 70 acres of private estate you can enjoy miles of walks from the door along old drovers’ paths into the foothills of the Cambrian Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park beyond.
A picture postcard location… by a babbling stream, on a hillside in the glorious Welsh mountain countryside, with expansive skies, surrounded by nature, it really is an idyllic spot to get away from it all.
Glanyrafon is one of three Cambrian Escapes owned by Duncan and Tanya Jordan. Each of the boutique holiday cottages offers unique guest accommodation at Penstacan, a private 70 acre estate, in a stunning natural landscape.
Glanyrafon, meaning riverside, is an 18th Century Woollen Mill cosily nestled into the hillside in its own cottage gardens, yet with wonderful mountain views. Tweeds and woollens were once woven here when every Welsh village had its own mill and factory… while the mill wheel has long since been lost, the crystal clear Gwenlais stream continues to flow through the beautiful garden with formal and wild borders and mature oak and beech trees.
You can enjoy views of the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Cambrian Mountains from the cottage and it’s surroundings. Pack a picnic, and from the door take a walk: hilltop vistas, hidden valleys and secret waterfalls are all waiting to be discovered.
Carmarthenshire is a glorious part of Wales, breathtaking scenery, Dark Skies, hilltop castles and great pubs (nearby recently voted Pub of the Year by Countryfile). There’s so much on offer and you can find out more about the many natural and cultural attractions in the area on Cambrian Escapes’ website. From wild swimming to stargazing you won’t find it hard to fill your days with unforgettable memories.
