Westleigh is an ultra-dog friendly luxury bed and breakfast that allows easy access to both East Devon’s coastal region as well as the stunning East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Within easy reach of both Honiton and the popular seaside resort of Seaton, Beer offers everything that you could want during your boutique bed and breakfast Devon break.
The fishing village of Beer may be tucked away on the Jurassic coast, but it is rich in history and heritage. With links to the Devonshire lace making industry and home to tales of smuggling from years gone by, Beer is included on the South West Coastal path. Owner, Etta, holidayed in Beer as a child and jumped at the opportunity to run Westleigh as it is a stunning property in a fabulous location. As well as Etta’s cordon bleu cooking, the River Cottage and the Mark Hix Restaurant are also nearby.
With only two rooms, Westleigh is the perfect getaway if you’re craving rest and relaxation complete with a very personal touch. With locally-sourced home cooked meals available, Westleigh offers everything that you may need if you want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of modern daily life.
Ensuring that inclusivity lies at the heart of the Westleigh experience, dogs are extremely welcome. Westleigh’s hosts take every care to ensure that your comfort and that of your four-legged friend has been taken into account. Dogs are allowed into all rooms with the exception of the kitchen and there is no extra charge for your furry friend. The sitting room with its open fire is a particular favourite amongst guests, with dogs hogging the fire when lit in colder times. Alternatively, the fire becomes a gorgeous focal point once the weather warms up.
Westleigh is rich in history as the cottage dates back over a century. The property has been brought bang up to date however, with a recent renovation, meaning it keeps its charm intact while delivering on the latest must-haves including LCD televisions, iPod docking stations and USB sockets.
Ultra-dog friendly, Westleigh is none the less kept sparklingly clean. With hard flooring throughout the ground floor of the property, dogs are welcomed and kept well cared for with a mass of baths, towels and brushes to keep man’s best friend looking gorgeous.
A small, but high quality property, Westleigh offers a little corner of Devon to relax in. With a delightfully comfortable – and comforting – sitting room to unwind in, guests can enjoy a roaring fire when weather demands it or simply relax in front of the plasma television.
Owner, Etta, is a cordon bleu cook and welcomes (human) guests to the property with a proper Devonshire cream tea, while four-legged canine guests are treated to home-made liver cake. Etta’s cooking skills extend to delicious dinners and – where possible – she sources local produce. With dishes such as lobster in cream and tarragon sauce, spring lamb and local beef on offer, you’ll be sure to want to stay more than one night.
Westleigh has been furnished to an extremely high standard, with no expense spared in terms of quality. However, the hosts take their guests needs very seriously and provide duvets with goose down or synthetic duvets for visitors who suffer from allergies. Offering 400 thread count bed linen as standard, the hosts at Westleigh have taken every opportunity to ensure their property offers exactly what guests need.
You’ll struggle to leave the sanctuary of your room, with fresh ground coffee, homemade treats and fudge on hand to get you through to the next stunning meal. When you awaken in the morning or return from a hard day at the beach, or even a mammoth hike along the South West Coastal Path, you can luxuriate in the Westleigh’s selection of quality shampoo and body washes on offer.
Bed & Breakfast is charged at £110 for two people per night with discounts available for single occupancy and stays of more than 3 days. All rooms are cleaned daily unless otherwise agreed beforehand.
There is no extra charge for dogs.
There are full menus that Westleigh can prepare from as little as £20 per head or as high as the sky!
When you awaken from a fabulous night’s sleep in one of Westleigh’s very exclusive two rooms, you’ll be ready to get your day off to an amazing start with one of Etta’s wonderful breakfasts. Using only high quality produce from the local surrounding area, you can choose to enjoy a full english cooked breakfast with local free range eggs, smoked bacon (choice of back or streaky), locally produced sausage, fried bread, tomato and mushroom.
As an alternative to the cooked breakfast Westleigh can also prepare croissants, pain au raisin and pain au chocolate or perhaps porridge with blueberries and hazelnuts. A breakfast buffet is also available for those who might prefer a simpler meal.
Breakfast is served between 08:00 – 09:00 and is served in the conservatory.
Evening meals are available on request and are served between the hours of 17:30 and 20:00. Westleigh also has a range of locally produced craft Beers or an assortment of wines which you can drink with your meals.
