Glebe House in the village of Dunning, Perthshire has a fascinating history dating back more than 150 years, not to mention an air of country house grandeur. In 2014, it was brought firmly into the 21st century thanks to a sensitive restoration project that enhanced its unique period features, many of which were handmade by skilled, local craftsmen. In the village, you can see the remains of a Roman encampment; a monument to Maggie Walls, who was burnt at the stake as a witch in 1657; and the ‘Straw House’, the only property to survive the Jacobean torching of Dunning in 1716.
Located in the historic fishing town of Arbroath on Scotland’s East Coast, Brucefield is a 1920s-built manor house offering boutique bed and breakfast accommodation. The house is within walking distance of the centre of town, which is famed for its ‘Smokies’, a unique type of smoked haddock.
