Relaxation is top of the agenda at this five-star guest house in the seaside town of St Leonards-on-Sea, which boasts five opulent bedrooms and two dedicated holistic therapy rooms offering a range of treatments.
This, together with the organic, gourmet food on offer, ensures that guests always leave feeling rested and refreshed. Even better, in every aspect of the way that The Cloudesley is run, great care is taken to minimise the impact on the environment; it has won awards for its eco-friendly approach.
With such impressive credentials, there’s no wonder it was named one of Britain’s Top 50 B&Bs for 2014 by The Times.
The property is located on a quiet residential street just seven minutes walk from Warrior Square train station. A number of top visitor attractions are located nearby, including historic sites connected with the Battle of Hastings; Batemans – the home of Rudyard Kipling; Sedlescombe Organic Vineyards; and Great Dixter Gardens to name just a few.
After a day of sight-seeing, guests can choose from the range of holistic treatments on offer at The Cloudesley, which includes aromatherapy, deep-tissue and Swedish massage, hot stones, reiki, reflexology and shiatsu.
The property has been designed by its owner, globally-syndicated photographer and Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner Shahriar Mazandi. As you’d expect from someone with such creative vision and flair, it’s beautifully decorated in a truly unique and eclectic style. Antique furniture sits comfortably alongside Shahriar’s striking photography, richly-coloured soft furnishings and objets d’art collected from all corners of the globe.
Three large solar panels provide hot water. The soaps and shampoos are sodium lauryl sulphate and paraben-free, the property is painted in eco-limewash, and bedding and towels are laundered using eco- friendly products. Smoking is not permitted.
In good weather, the patio is a wonderful sun trap, particularly at breakfast time. Guests are welcome to invite friends for drinks and snacks in either one of the two reception rooms.
The Cloudesley has an alcohol licence and can cater for up to 40 non-residents, making it a suitable venue for business functions, events and special occasions.
Each of the five guest rooms has free wireless internet access, an iPod docking station and CD player, and an assortment of fine books on art, gardening, photography and history. There are no televisions; this is to ensure that guests are not disturbed by the sound of televisions from other rooms.
The beds have pocket-sprung mattresses, Siberian goose down pillows and Egyptian linen to guarantee a comfortable night’s sleep.
Room rates range from £69 to £139 per night.
The Cloudesley is known for its gourmet, organic breakfasts, particularly the selection of omelettes created by Shahriar himself. Special diets are catered for.
During the growing season, fresh herbs and fruit from the garden are used in the kitchen. All of the ingredients are either home-grown, or locally-sourced and organic.
