If you close your eyes and picture a quintessentially English seaside guesthouse, the chances are that – from the outside at least – it would look pretty much like Trevose Harbour House.
However, you’ll have to leave any preconceived ideas at the door because inside it’s most definitely not your typical seaside B&B! The fresh cobalt blue and white colour scheme wouldn’t look out of place in the Mediterranean and mirrors the tones of the surrounding coastal landscape beautifully. Many of the furnishings have been upcycled or recycled but the effect is most definitely chic, rather than shabby. Mid-20th century design classics add a quirky, retro vibe.
The narrow whitewashed property forms part of a terrace in St. Ives’ historic town centre, just a short distance from no less than four award-winning beaches. It’s a soothing, relaxed place to stay, where nothing is too much trouble for your hosts, Angela and Olivier Noverraz. Fancy a champagne cream tea on the beach? Consider it done.
The picture postcard fishing town of St Ives is one of Cornwall’s most popular destinations. It’s well known for its thriving arts scene and you’ll stumble across some great galleries, workshops and studios as you explore the maze of cobbled streets leading down towards the harbour.
Angela and Olivier spent two years lovingly restoring Trevose Harbour House before opening for business two years ago. Their super stylish take on contemporary coastal living earned them an interiors spread in Coast magazine in 2014.
The facilities include a cosy snug with an open fireplace; a great selection of newspapers, magazines and classic novels for guests to peruse; an honesty bar; a private terrace that’s a real suntrap terrace and another terrace where guests can people watch as they enjoy breakfast during the summer. Picnic hampers can be provided. Some private car parking is available.
Angela and Olivier are committed to minimising the impact of their business on the environment so food and drink is locally sourced, they recycle as much of their waste as possible and use eco-friendly cleaning products.
Most of the six individually designed bedrooms enjoy sweeping views across the harbour. The stunning Harbour View Roof Suite spans the entire top floor and enjoys a jaw-dropping vista across to Godrevy lighthouse, whilst the self-contained Terrace Deluxe Room is separate from the main building and overlooks the small terrace to the rear.
With king-sized Hypnos beds; Egyptian cotton linen; fluffy towels; free wireless internet access; organic products by Neal’s Yard; iPod docking stations and radios; desks; well-stocked refreshment trays; mini bars and more, Angela and Olivier have every little luxury detail covered.
Prices range from £150 to £265 per night for a double room.
Angela and Olivier believe that food should be simple, wholesome, nourishing and delicious. Where possible, they source organic, local produce, ensuring that only the freshest and finest ingredients make it to the breakfast table. The breakfast menu includes an extensive buffet of breads, pastries, fruit and muesli, as well as a tempting choice of hot dishes, including everything from the traditional full English to a hot croissant filled with Cornish brie, ham and tomato. Yum!
