The Chestnuts Country House is a quality, country Boutique B&B in Alverton, a peaceful little hamlet, in Nottinghamshire’s beautiful Vale of Belvoir.

The property is a former Duke of Portland Estate Farm set in over 3 acres of gardens and surrounded by open countryside. Lovingly renovated and restored by owners David and Kelly Robinson over the past 14 years; the last part of the project has been to convert the coach house and stable block into high-end guest accommodation, which was completed in 2021.

There are three spacious suites to choose from, similarly appointed, with subtle colour palette or fabric changes, but then the glorious main feature of the room in each, is an individual, beautifully dressed, handmade, king size four poster bed. All the rooms have independent access at ground level and overlook the delightful gardens.  A breakfast menu full of homemade, home grown and locally sourced produce completes the picture and combines to make this a most special place to stay.

The Vale of Belvoir is a wide shallow valley, surrounded on three sides by the low hills of the Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire Wolds.  There are lots of villages to explore within the valley and many fantastic local pubs and restaurants, all within 5 to 10 minutes drive.  Belvoir Castle, after which the vale is named, is the main visitor attraction in the area and is just a short 15 minute drive from The Chestnuts.  Other attractions within a 20 minute drive include: Eden Spa, Belton House and the historic market town of Newark Upon Trent. Melton Mowbray, the regional food capital of Leicestershire, famed for its pork pies and Stilton cheese, and the vibrant city of Nottingham with its shopping and nightlife are both around 40 mins drive away.

The Chestnuts Country House Boutique B&B is a lovely little slice of heart felt hospitality in England’s green and pleasant land.  Ideal as a base to explore the central Midlands region, or for a spur of the moment, cheeky weekend away, your passionate hosts will do everything in their power to make sure your getaway is altogether great!

Built in 1858, The Chestnuts Country House is a former Duke of Portland Estate Farm, located in Alverton, a small Vale of Belvoir hamlet in Nottinghamshire.  The guest accommodation comprises: three Garden Suites situated in the former coach house and stable block, all furnished with handmade furniture, four poster beds and high quality mattresses and linens.

The property is surrounded by three and a half acres of well kept landscaped gardens featuring many mature and specimen trees.  A croquet pitch and set is available for guests to play on the front lawn during the warmer months and tables and chairs are positioned close to the rooms for guests to sit out, relax and enjoy a summer’s evening watching the sun going down.

The property is secured by electric gates and has private parking next to the rooms, with three trickle charging points available for electric vehicles.

Within a 20 minutes drive: Belvoir Castle with its grounds and renowned ‘Engine yard’ retail village, restored from old estate buildings, is a must see local visitor attraction with artisan shopping. Eden Hall Day Spa makes for a relaxing treat to indulge in during your stay and the historic town of Newark on Trent with its castle gardens, river and antique shops is also nearby.

There are lots of villages to explore in The Vale with many country pubs offering great food 5-10 minutes away.

Beautiful B&B! The room was relaxing and peaceful. Kelly and David are the perfect hosts! We enjoyed all the small details from the cream tea on arrival to the homemade bread and jams for breakfast! Most definitely one of the nicest places we have stayed.
