Tucked away in rolling farmland on the North Norfolk Coast, the White House is a gorgeous Georgian gem of a country retreat offering luxury bed and breakfast, or the whole house can be booked for a bespoke catered house party, or boutique wedding or celebration.

Once a derelict building bereft of floors and walls, the White House has been brought back to life by owners Mark and Alison Thompson.  Revived and refreshed, this gracious Norfolk manor house shines out pristinely against the verdant landscape, proudly radiating in its new found status, transformed into smart, yet relaxed and sumptuous, guest accommodation.

An atmosphere of rural bliss ensues: the faint clip clopping of horses’ hooves resonates as a distant lullaby, big skies above, birdsong, invigorating fresh coastal air and a truly scrumptious breakfast to feast on. The White House is a dreamy, secluded place where privileged guests can choose to relax in a gentle setting and enjoy the simple pleasures, or to engage in local life.  From residential art courses to advanced event rider training, cycle hire to paddle boarding, the White House team are happy to help curate a befitting list of activities in advance for you to partake in, because your perfect stay is the order of the day!

Located in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The White House is very close to the wild and wonderful North Norfolk Coast with its miles and miles of beautiful and really unspoiled beaches and marshes. There are cosy pubs, fresh fish and chips and charming seaside villages along the coast. Nearby Burnham Market is a buzzy Georgian market town with a sweet little village green and stacks of independent shops and restaurants serving up delicious local produce. This beautiful part of East Anglia also has three magnificent Country Houses to visit, top attractions for a great day out: Holkham, Houghton and the Sandringham Estate, are all very close and offer everything from Beach Cafes and adventure playgrounds to Royal spotting or outdoor sculpture parks.

The White House is an utterly charming and rather special boutique b&b offering bespoke guest experiences in an idyllic country setting close by the sea on the North Norfolk Coast.  Perfectly positioned to enjoy the wealth of things to do and places to visit on one of Britain’s most enchanting coastlines. Essentially, The White House is what Boutique is all about – unique and bespoke, a little bit different, a little bit special, a breath of fresh air that captures the imagination and lifts the spirit – a place you can’t wait to visit and can’t resist going back to.

As soon as you enter the White House, you are met with an air of calm. The lush reception rooms, rich in colour, are furnished with sumptuous velvet sofas and specially commissioned work by Norfolk artists adorn the walls; light streams in through huge sash windows.  Book a room for the night and the house is yours to enjoy; light the fire or fling the doors open and head out to the walled garden, pour yourself a drink, put your feet up and unwind because you are in for a real treat…

Crisp white bed linen on vast Hypnos beds, toiletries made in England from organic essential oils by 100 Acres, Teapigs tea and Nespresso coffee, Sky TV, Chromecast and Roberts Radio in all the bedrooms and free and fast wifi all over the house.

Beautiful velvet sofas, huge sash windows, a wood burner and a thoughtfully stocked Honesty Bar make the sitting rooms a fabulous place to relax and enjoy your stay.

Outdoors there is a tennis court, croquet on the lawn and a delightful sun trap of a walled garden.  Tesla and electric car charging is also available onsite.

Artists Retreat  –  more than just rest and relaxation, Big Sky Art offers richly rewarding residential art courses with friendly, talented tutors on hand to guide you. Painting in The White House’s very own light and spacious studio, or visit the inspiring North Norfolk Coast and paint en plein air if that’s more your style.  Enjoy creating your very own masterpiece in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Equestrian Escape  –  looking for a riding holiday with a touch of class, then bring your horse with you! Nearby beaches offer miles of riding along the coast. Livery is available at the next door stables run by Emily Lochore (Mark’s sister) who is an experienced International 3 Day Event Rider.  Excellent facilities include an Outdoor Arena and a Cross Country Course, on which Emily offers tuition and training for all levels of horse and rider.  Pre-arranged booking is essential, but such a thrill and what an experience!

Tucked in to a gentle valley on Sussex Farm between sophisticated Burnham Market and wild Brancaster Beach, get out and about and The White House is only a short distance from the delightful coastal villages of Titchwell, Thornham, Burnham Overy Staithe and Wells next the Sea. There are miles of beautiful coastal walking paths, Holkham Estate, Royal Sandringham and Houghton Hall are nearby and definitely worth a visit, and there are scores of wonderful local pubs and restaurants cooking local seafood and produce to a high standard in relaxed surroundings. The local vibe is cool, laid back and unspoiled.

Your say...

This is such a lovely place. The house is so beautifully decorated, you can really see someone has put their heart and soul into making it such a special place for guests. The breakfast was just fab, and the lovely man who helped us was so kind, he even let me have a list of the paint colours. The rooms are beautiful, with gorgeous bathrooms and such a comfy bed. I loved having proper coffee in the room a real treat. The bathroom amenities were really nice, the best I have ever experienced. Finally I loved the honesty bar, such a good idea. If you are considering a stay in the area, you could not possibly be dissapointed.
